Does your horse have a UK passport?

Make sure its identification details and your owner details up to date

In the unthinkable event of your horse being lost, stolen or going missing on loan, NED can immediately help you through its UK-wide lost/stolen register. If your horse does go missing, you will want to get it on the register quickly because the faster you can flag it up, the better the chances of recovery are. Out of date ownership details and missing identification information can cause delays – so why not take the time to check them now!

How? Follow this step by step process. Click here to go to NED

1.find your horse and check that the basic information there is correct, complete and up to date. If not, contact the company which issued the passport.
2.“associate” yourself with your horse by clicking on "associate yourself with this equine". You will only be able to do this if your ownership details (including your address) are up to date. Did you know that if you change address permanently, Defra advises that you should inform your passport issuer within 30 days of moving? Click here for details.
3.check that all your horse’s security identifiers (freezemark and microchip) are correctly recorded – if not you can add them yourself
4. upload a clear photo and a detailed description of your horse
The lost/stolen register has already helped owners recover their horses and if you have a look on the website, you’ll see the good news stories.

What if my horse does not have a microchip or other freezemark?

The best way of recovering a horse which goes missing is to have it microchipped and freezemarked. To have your horse microchipped, contact your vet. To have your horse freezemarked contact a freezemarking company by keying “freezemark” into a search engine.
